We all have a few things in our closet or home that we bought on epic sale. A deal so good you have to tell people about it if they compliment the item.
There’s really something so fun and thrilling about getting such a great deal on something. Especially so when it’s a high quality item, or something you’ve been coveting for a while. That seems to always make it that much more special. It’s almost a sense of accomplishment and achievement when you make that kind of a score.
The Psychology Of A Good Deal
I think part of loving a good deal is the actual psychology of it. There’s a bit of a thrill to the hunt. And also a sense of achievement when you do find such a great deal that you can’t resist.
Personally, I’m not one to sift through sale sections or sale racks. So my wins usually come from happy accidents. But sometimes when I stumble onto something I really love I tend to obsess over it a bit. And that’s what drives me to hunt for a deal.
Sometimes it pans out, not always. But that’s what happened with this Cala de la Cruz dress. I stumbled onto the brand, obsessed, then got very lucky.
Sure I always like to get the best price possible and I’m never afraid to ask for a price adjustment. I’ll browse for codes when possible. And it can be a real win when you find additional coupons to stack and really get that price down. But it’s those epic deals that you remember exactly how they went down, that you have to retell the story anytime someone compliments the item. And you know exactly what those pieces are in your closet or home.
They Make For Great Stories
I feel like everyone has at least one epic story. You’ll remember it for years because the deal was THAT good. Maybe you stumbled onto a designer bag at a Goodwill that was marked down to practically nothing. Or a sale on sale on sale that you just happened to stumble upon. My favorite is when you don’t even realize something is on sale, and you end up at the cash register and they tell you what a great deal you just stumbled onto. The best, right?
I’m saying all of this, because yes, I just had one of those epic stories happen and I can’t stop telling everyone about it. So here I am, telling you about my latest epic find of a deal.
My most recent epic sale find
A few months ago I stumbled onto this brand called Cala de la Cruz. I was browsing wedding guest dresses for my friend’s wedding and found a few on Moda Operandi that I really loved. They weren’t really wedding guest dresses for the most part, but they were definitely pieces I’d wear in the summer, or on vacation, I really loved everything I was seeing.
I had never heard of the brand before and it was definitely out of my price point. About $400-$600 for their pieces. This is a smidge higher than where I like to be. I’m an under $200 kind of person for the most part. With some exceptions. I’m actually allowing more exceptions these days as I realize splurges, and fewer of them combined with less mindless shopping, is kind of the move. Old age I suppose, maybe?
I’ll be honest, I couldn’t get their pieces out of my head and that’s usually a sign that I really should splurge. Since I had never tried this brand before, I decided to order a few sizes and styles to at least figure out my size in the brand. This way if I found pieces on sale or even on The Real Real, I could buy with confidence.
Once I got the pieces in I instantly fell in love. They fit so great, loved the vibes and the prints were just so unique. It took a lot out of me to return the pieces knowing I was going to have to wait for them to hopefully go on sale. They weren’t a guarantee and I was bummed, but I was not spending almost $1,000 on two dresses.
I found myself randomly browsing on Anthropologie’s site and saw that they had two pieces I liked on sale. I decided to go for it. They were still pretty expensive, but they were less expensive than full price, and I was really excited about them.
I fell in love!
They arrived, I tried them on, and I fell in love all over again. I couldn’t wait to wear them. A few days later I was on my computer and was typing something in for Anthropologie and it auto-filled the address to the dress I had bought. I hit enter, and what do you know, the dress is now an EXTRA 50% off. And, in my size!
So not only was it on sale, but it was an extra 50% off making the two dresses I had just purchased, the price of just one. I couldn’t believe it. I rebought the dresses (thankfully they had my size) because Anthropologie does not do price adjustments, and hit purchase. Yes, this meant I had to go back to Anthropologie to return the dresses with the old receipt, but it was worth the effort.
And never be afraid to rebuy items and return with a prior receipt. It’s not my fault these brands aren’t doing price adjustments! I’ll just do my own.
I’m thrilled to have grabbed not one but two of Cala de la Cruz’s dresses on major sale. This linen striped mini dress is my favorite kind of summer dress. I love the fit, the colors, and it just makes me feel so good. I also grabbed a midi silky dress that is truly the perfect wedding guest dress, or vacation dress. It was kind of exactly what I was looking for, too.
I keep saying I want to stumble onto a fantastic event dress that I just love without having something on my calendar. I think shopping FOR events is so silly, I’d rather find pieces I love, add them to my closet, and have them ready to go for when something does come up. A closet full of things I truly love not things I bought out of necessity or on a time crunch.
So there you have it. My most recent, and I think the most epic, deal in my closet. And now I’m all in on the brand, Cala de la Cruz. I’ll be doing a full sizing guide for the brand soon, but until then, I’d size up at least one full size. The brand runs quite small and I ended up in a size large instead of my usual small/medium.
