Olivia Rodrigo is not the first person to make the transition from Disney child star to well-rounded adult. But she has managed to bridge the gap without, at least from where we’re standing, the growing pains of those who’ve come before. This is particularly true of her style.
Known for a blend of pop punk that transcends her music and drips into her wardrobe, Rodrigo is often seen performing in plaid, Dr. Martens, arm warmers and platform heels. While for her red carpet outfits, the musician is frequently dressed in Saint Laurent; as was the case for her appearance at the 2021 Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Opening Gala and the lace catsuit she wore to the 2021 Met Gala. As an ambassador for Glossier, Rodrigo straddles the realms of music, beauty and fashion, and nails all three.
Lately though, with the release of her sophomore album, Guts, and her world tour well underway (and almost on Australian shores), it appears Rodrigo is pivoting her style to keep in line with the record’s tone. She’s trading in her Converse high tops for mary janes and the fishnet tights for sheer pantyhose (with a ladder or two for good measure). Rodrigo has gone from Liv Tyler in Empire Records to The Craft and she’s got a pitch perfect soundtrack for the shift.
Where Sour could fall under the umbrella of sad girl music, Guts is unapologetically brash, angry, vulgar and punchy. It’s her former wardrobe through older eyes with a more defined outline. It’s a shift we can attribute, in part, to Rodrigo’s stylists, sisters Chloe and Chenelle Delgadillo. The two are responsible for the Rodrigo’s most memorable fashion moments, as well as further looks from Rosalía, Willow Smith, SZA and Ice Spice.
Below, we pay homage to the style of pop princess, Olivia Rodrigo. Here are some of her best looks to date.
